Why Choose Merino Wool?
Here are some of the benefits of this wonderful wool:
Thermoregulating: Merino wool is thermoregulating, meaning it keeps your child warm when it's cold, and cool when it's warm. It's the perfect fabric for small babies who are unable to regulate their body temperature during the first months of their life. When temperatures increase, the wool fibres in Merino wool not only absorb body moisture but also help it evaporate faster than other fabrics.
Natural UV protection, and non flammable: Merino wool has radiation protection properties via its natural UV filter. It will protect your child from UV radiation up to UV Protection Factor 20 to 50+, depending on the wool's thickness and colour. It's also naturally fire-resistant, due to the way the wool fibres are structured. It requires more oxygen than is available in the air to become flammable.
Odour neutralising: Merino wool is odour neutralising, soaking up unpleasant smells and releasing them when you wash it. The naturally protective outer layer of your child's Merino wool garment will prevent stains from being permanently absorbed, so it's easy to brush them off with a cloth. When the garment is dirty, you can wash it on a low temperature, making sure you use a good wool detergent. Because Merino wool resists odours, bacteria and stains, you don't need to wash it as often or as rigorously as synthetics. For deeper stains, a good organic stain remover will do wonders.
Durable: Merino wool is durable. Its fibres are six times stronger than cotton, so you can pass on your favourite garments once your baby outgrows them.
Non-allergic: Merino wool is non-allergic, making it kind to your baby's sensitive skin. Compared to other fabrics, wearing Merino wool against the skin, even over long periods of time, vastly reduces infant eczema symptoms. Merino wool creates a healthy microclimate for your child's skin. Its soft hypoallergenic wool fibres care for skin.
All Lilli & Leopold Merino wool comes from really happy sheep not subjected to mulesing, and none of it ever undergoes any superwash treatment.
